I purchased My X-2 used it has 2 stage gearing and a torque tube tail drive but I have seen post about single stage gearing and belt drives on the X-2 so how many different versions are there and what are the differences between versions. MAs website does a poor job of describing the product .

Thanks

There are 2 versions, the new version you have X2 and the old version
just ion X.

I fly and then I fly some more.

I did know about the Ion x and the X-2 but what I'm referring too is comment's in posts to dual stage and sing stage gearing and belt drive tail systems. Mine has dual stage gearing and a torque tube constant drive tail.
were the single stage and belt drives just Ion x that people have added some other upgrades to and now they call them Ion X-2?
Did all Ion X 2 come stock like mine or does mine have some upgrades?
Wish I would have bought it new now like I have all my other helis.

I have only had mine for a few months and am still trying to figure it out. I love the helicopter its my current favorite. Unlike a T Rex there are no others around me with an Ion so my only choice for answers is MA ( that is lacking) and hear with you guys.

Thanks

Hi ,

I think the ION X2 is availeble with different options .
I have an ION X2 with a single maingear ( some have a double maingear ) and a alu FAI head .

The X2 has the belt drive from the motor to the pimon that turns the main shaft.

The old Ion had the motor pinon that went right to the gear that turned the pinon that turned the main gear and main shaft.

I fly and then I fly some more.

Ion-X "1.0" Dual stage (gears)
Ion-X "1.5" Direct drive (Actro motor)
Ion-X "2.0" (Ion-X2) Belt drive, dual stage, Standard issue with one maingear

You can buy the option for double-stacked maingears for the X2 if you planning to fly extremely hard, I flown it "hard" with 12s power with single gear without issue but you need to pay attention to gearmesh,.

Then of course there is tons of other options because head is same as the stratus/tempest you can go FAI and other options.

I am not sure how many "versions" there are but I can say this...

I do recall there being a belt tail drive Ion. I have flown both, the two stage and single stage X 1.

As far as X2's go, I only know of the "one" actual version. However, I have seen three different X2 frames and all where intended for the two stage belt driven primary. All have the same P/N's.

Take that for what it's worth.

Thanks guys

Maybe I have been confusing the belt drive for the motor for a belt drive tail in the comments Ive heard.

I noticed no one commented on the torque tube or belt drive tail system are all Ion x-2 torque tube or was this an option?

As I get more time on this thing I will learn it like I know my rex's
I can definitely say this thing rocks

Thanks again

hmmm... I've had the following...

- Ion-X v1 / stock Hacker motor + 10S - dual stage gear drive, torque tube
- Ion-X v1.5 / Actro 32-3 + 10S - single stage gear drive, torque tube
- Ion-X v1 / Neu 1521 + 10S & 11S - dual stage gear drive, torque tube

- Ion-X2 / Actro 32-3 (6mm shaft) - dual stage BELT drive, torque tube

I don't think the Ion was ever kitted with a tail belt drive (like the Razor was), but it is likely that the belt drive from the another MA heli could be fitted.
