I have a Fuel Magnet for my 600N..

Im curious..

IF there is fuel in the tank AT ALL TIMES,, using muffler pressure..

What is the longest they last? I got three foams to a pack as a replacement so no biggie..

How long do they need to be replaced? Etc..

Any info would be helpful cuz Ive never used these.. Thanks!!!!

Well why would there be fuel in the tank all the time?

Also, it's not the fuel that kills them, its the exhaust gases. So at the end of the day at the field, I fill up the tack completely and suck it back out. This blows all the the exhaust gases that harm the magnet.

Yes, you will want to leave the tank full of fuel. This preserves the magnets for the longest period of time.

By leaving the tank empty you could dry out the magnet and render it useless.

I have been running magnets since OMI first came out with them 3 or so years ago and have always followed the same routine of leaving fuel in the tank, this extends the life of the magnet by always keeping it wet and I rarely change the elements.

Hope this helps.

They attract all the metal molecules in the fuel to separate the protoplasam from the ecto-plasma which allows the biomechanical fluctuation in the time space continuum.......naw.....they just suck up the fuel.

A Fuel Magnet or ELD (every last drop) as it's sometimes called is simply a sponge that retains fuel during your entire flight.

The magnet eliminates the need for a header tank and makes your motor run consistant your entire flight.

Yeah, but this is a commonly asked question. "What do the magnets do?" As Mike said, its just a clunk with a sponge on the outside to suck up every drop of fuel. ELD is the company and "Fuel Magnet" is the name of the product.

For those that want to know, after a throttle servo failure at minute #2, the fuel magnet sucked every drop of fuel out of the 600N's tank (while sitting on the runway) for another 12 minutes @ >50% throttle.

Actually OMI is the name of the company http://oneals.com/ and the ELD is AKA Fuel Magnet.

I used them for a while but kept eating the sponge. Switched to Bubbless Clunks and never looked back. Work just as well IMO and no foam to disintegrate on you.

A bubbles clunk is different than a fuel magnet, the BC doesn't retain fuel like the sponge of the FM and although it works well on 50's I wouldn't reccomend the BC on 90's.

Given a choice between both I would pick the Fuel Magnet each and every time.

Hmmm, used it on 90's with no issues so far. On the other hand I have had a fuel magnet disintegrate on me, plug the fuel line and cause an inverted flameout and subsequent crash.

If you don't treat FM's just right they fall apart on you if you are using muffler pressure. I am not the only one this has happened to...

Oh and the BB Clunk may not retain quite as well as the FM but it's darn close. After all, all we are trying to do is slow the fuel from rushing out of the clunk line when it is momentarily sucking air....

For sure the fuel magnet! Once you have one (and take care of it) you will never be without. Just always keep it wet and it will last a good year.

When you get down to the end of the tank, it did not work as good. Motor would start to lean out. That's good and bad. Its bad for the motor but at least it's a warning that you are about to run out of fuel.

With the magnet, the motor just stops without warning because it will suck every last drop if your clunk line is cut to the right length.

And you better make sure your auto skills are good especially when you are inverted and only a couple feet off the ground.

Again just to clarify, the Bubbless Clunk DOESN'T retain fuel, it's pourus and was designed to prevent foaming from getting into your fuel lines.

The ELD/Fuel Magnet is a sponge, it ALWAYS stays loaded with fuel so there is no way to get foam or air into your fuel lines.

The ELD does require a bit more care but if you are looking for consistancy out of your motors than the ELD is the way to go, I have run both and prefer the ELD far more.

Ultimetly it's your preference but the 2 are very different.
