You dont have to but it will be more responsive with leading edge control, but then less stable, with trailing its the other way around.

I actually converted my T700N today and kept trailing just to check how it flies..

I believe that leading edge is the best and most responsive because the blade is getting told what to do 90 degrees before it does it .I think of it as engine timing . If you want to advance the timing or retard the timing .

You can always flip over those grips .
