Lipo's are much better but you will need a regulator. I would use the align 2 in 1 because it will light your glow plug but you also need a 5.1v step down that you need to run on your gyro and a lipo charger.

A good quality NiMH pack (4.8v)(around 2Ah) is an adequate battery.

You could go to Lithium, but then you got to start adding all sorts of other stuff like regulators, and it gets expensive.

wich one is good lipo or niMh

lipo = great capacity but you need other stuff to go with, but whatever you do, DO NOT run a niMh, use a ni-cad ie 1700 sanyo au ni-cad

but you limited to 3 flights there or abouts to be safe, but you can top up juice at field and leave in heli

This will be my last flight today ... :)

WHAT!?

Because a NiMH has no memory effect and NiCD does?

Because a NiMH can be topped off at any time after every couple of flights?

Because a NiMH cell contains no cadmium, which is hazardous to the environment?

Because NiMH has more than twice the capacity of standard NiCd, meaning a higher Amp hour/Weight ratio?

Because a NiMH of a given capacity weighs roughly half of what a NiCD pack of the same capacity weighs?

Because the service life of a NiMH battery is 33% greater than a NiCD battery? (1000 cycles vs 750 cycles)

Im not sure which it is.. Please explain why he should " NOT run a niMh, use a ni-cad"

I wish I could fly 24/7

I'm using a 3.3AH sub C nimh pack . The cells are capable of a 30A delivery , I think that is sufficient .

At the end of the day , it gets dark .

It is said that nimh don't just wearout like ni-cad they just die. But i think it's a good trade.

Agree with NiMH pack usage. I use a JR 2700 mah NiMH and can fly all day with no problems using 8717 servos.

Agreed with the above on paper but i still would NOT use NiMH far too unpredictble, put my foot in it now

Lipo is my choice for capacity ie 5000 mah etc,

This will be my last flight today ... :)

I am using sanyo 2400 scr nicad at 4.8v and getting 6 flights from my raptor 30, with digitals on everything but the throttle.
I would switch to nimh 3.3AH when this pack dies a death.

If you fly more I would just get another receiver pack and change it on the field, or consider a lipo.

Good luck

If your system will take 6V run a 2S A123 unregulated. Charges to about 6.8v drops quick to 6.6 and stays there till its done. Cells are $16 each or you can buy a 2s pack for about $50, 2300Mah so good for 5-6 flights, I actually fly 4 so never have to question but my Eagle tree dont lie, it would do 5 for sure. No regulator sticks with the KISS rule, though you need to step down for the tail. Cant crash kill a pack, wont burn your heli up, the pack is good for 1000 cycles and you can charge it from a power supply. What could be better than that for 6V?

Pick your 6V or 7.4V pack and use this beauty

Here is a cool choice. Pick your 6v or higher voltage pack
and run it into this 5.5V regulator and run everything at 5.5Volts

This is a non-switching regulator so no fear of interference to a
governor, gyro, carb smart. Just a pure 5.5volts and you can
run that straight to a tail servo as most run 5.1 or 5.3 to the tail servo.
