Hey Thomas,

I for one didnt take anything you said as a fight and I hope I cleared up a few things for you in PM. Whatever you are frustrated by, I hope you don't let it get you down. If it's heli related and you need some help, send me a PM any time.

Ditto on my part as well.
We have a very good group here.
Marty is a plasic guy. In my younger days I was cooking up the next gen of molding equipment and control systems.
bottom line is we like to fly.
Sometimes a failure is just that. one or two percent? not a big deal.
If you have any six sigma training using SPC the data in the noise.
If your the one with the problem it's everything.
Sounds like JB is looking at the noise and doing something about it.
If you need to get an after market part to make you feel warm and fuzzy to fly. do it. Untill you think the problem is fixed with the mindset your problem is still in the noise of all the ships that are flying.
When the fix "in your mind" is on the table. try it. thats how engineering works folks.
my two cents.
Now then....whatever you have...go fly and burn nitro.

I wouldn't worry about anything you've said Tom (machinehead), and I don't think anybody has taken anything personally. I know things are especially difficult in Michigan for you guys in that neck of the woods (what with all the job losses) and I know you're going through a lot with your family. God Bless you pal, and keep you chin up and let's all pray this too shall pass.

Meanwhile, I have, in fact, recently completed a new design, which like the replacement seesaw arm, are more heavy duty. They're in stock and shipping (have been for about a month, or so). They're the same part number AUD0042-2 Tail Rotor Grip and are a drop in replacement for the original, i.e. they use the same bearings and hub.

Would that $12.99 for each blade grip or is that for a pair?

Thanks!
Scott

Does anyone have a picture to share showing these new tail rotor grips? I believe I am going to upgrade my tiger and 2 panteras. Inexpensive insurance.

what do you need to know? It has more plastic around the grip bolt hole and is a drop in replacement. Otherwise identical to stock.

Drop-in fit.
I found that the new grip had a better "fit" than the previous...prior I would place an extra shim under the nut to reduce the "play" in the shaft-grip-bearing stack.

These have lots-o-flights (~ 5 gallons) swinging 97mm night-blades (50% more weight than most 87-92-95mm tail blades) and have opened the GY-611 to have a aggressive piro-rate (in the neighborhood of 720/second). Holding up just fine. Just re-lubed the bearings last Saturday...all looks well.

Must say though...I'm not shooting full autos at night with the 97mm blades...and during the day I run 92mm century CF blades when shooting autos.

They are bigger in the bearing area as well as at the bolt hole because we figured, "In for a penny, in for a pound" and thus, made the entire grip "much" stronger, i.e. in all respects.

Gus/John,

Thanks for posting the pics. They do look like great insurance. I ordered 3 sets to replace the grips on all my ships.

Thanks!

Selling my tiger with all the audacity upgrades

I'm sorry to say , but with all the times i've been grounded to a small plastic part, i have to sell my tiger. Great helicopter, but every time a small but crucial piece is broken, i have to order it and wait two weeks to get it. And lately i can't seam to order anything on the website now that it has changed. I bought the helicopter at $189 last year thinking it was a real dael, but now with all the up grades and paying shipping on all the little parts to replace, i could have bought a T-rex Pro or Raptor, and been able to buy the parts down the street if i need them. I'm sorry to hear hard times hit the US and i think that as great as a product is priced and built, if the company cant have a distribution system set up more efficient ie.Audacity's then the big companies are eventu7ally gonna win and the little guy might not survive. Which worries my I might not be able to get parts for my heli in the future. So I've decided to sell my Tiger MKII with all up grades and spare parts,(no engine, or electronics) for $150.00 US. Never been crashed. Had small miss haps with tail blades hitting ground when i landed in a bit of a dip in the local field. Needs tail rotor gear house.

John's been giving me great advice through out my build and i appriciate it, but i live up in Cnanada , so i need to be able to buy some thing here that I can buy parts for at the local hobby store.

Message me if your interested.

Holy crapp- that's a big difference in the amount of beef on the grips! I think I will be ordering 2 sets this week.

Thanks for the picture for comparison.

I meant to do that!!!

Whitestone,

PM Hobbycraft, i.e. in Canada, have Tiger and Pantera parts in stock.

Stateside, Ron Lund's Heliproz South as well as A Main Hobbies both are major mail order dealers with parts in stock (other than ourselves).

Otherwise, expecting us to compete with the huge Chinese companies, i.e. Thunder Tiger or Align, well that's a entirely different kettle of fish. Frankly, we're doing the best we can - and are always open to new dealers - but we don't have their kinds of budgets, much less the number of sales people.

When I lived in the Panama Canal Zone, a situation similar to yours in that it was a couple of weeks away from parts, I found it worthwhile to keep a modest stock of parts, i.e the usual suspects (tail boom, spindle shaft, flybar, tail output shaft, seesaw arms, tail fins, landing gear legs, and radio platform). It's a habit I've never lost and to this day I keep a fair bit of inventory for every machine I own (largely for the convenience of making repairs on my schedule).

Anyway, I hope you reconsider, especially since you can purchase parts via PM Hobbycraft, which is just up the road from you in Calgary.
