Well I cannot give you any advice as compared to the Vibe 50. But I treat the ODIN and the Knight the same as any of my other helis. After each day of flying they should get bolt checked, cleaned (guilty of not always doing this), and just eyeball inspected everywhere and problem areas identified. So far I am happy to report the ODIN and the knight only have one maintenance area. The dampners for me are a little soft and I beleive I am wearing them out. But a fix is being worked for this and should be out very soon. Stay tuned

on odin. rebuild after every crash.. eheheh

got about 100 flights on k3d.. 1x crash...

thus far: 1 way bearing in clutch.. had hydro lock, and broke bearing.. eventually replaced it last week after another 50 flights.

tail bearing in tail case bit of play on them.. but this from flying with broken tail blades (dont ask) and i even still got original tail shaft.. think bit bent by now.. lots of vibration.. but fly's like charm....

motor bearings are shot.. but that os issue.

otherwise.. normal as wallbanger says.. i made some of ball links to large first time.. so they was bit loose after 40 or so flight, simple replaced those.

otherwise.. fly.. fly, fly.. charge.. ooclean.. fly fly fly ;-)

Exactly.

As the other guy said, I have had a one way in the clutch go bad, but that is no biggie. Also make sure when you get the kit, you get one of the new ones with the white main gear. The black main gear is prone to stripping.

I probably have only about 60 flights on my 3D, with about 10 gallons through my Pro.

I have had to replace the ball links on throttle and the tail on both of them.

Nothing else has shown any wear.

My maint over 2 years of use

No the black gears don't strip. There was one bad lot of them. I have had my night 2 years and with black gears and I fly it hard.
I think the white is a better gear for friction ect... but I do push over autos with the black gears no problem with drag.

Every winter I strip it down. With the original clutch stack the pinion gear to bearing would wear. I lock tite this but it still wore a little over the year. The new stack fixes this but I still have the older one and as long as you adhere it to the bearing it is good to go.

The main bearings and a few in the stack were worn over the year and I replaced them. Very fast and easy and they are dirt cheap.

Other than the yearly strip down my 2 season old bird flies and feels great week to week ...

Not sure Rick if the dampers changed
I still have first run dampers in my head and they are 2 years old and still in fine shape

"knight differences

The Pro the oldest version that I know of. It is heavier, with metal frames, head, and, in some cases tail gear box and tail grips. It is also taller. It uses a secondary main gear to drive a short shaft to drive the tail rotor as well. It is heavy, very easy to fly, and very smooth.

I believe the Pro has been discontinued.

The Knight 3D is much lighter and much more nimble. It is not as tall, and the CG is compressed vertically. The tail is also belt driven, but in a similar fashion to a Raptor (belt wraps around a large cog/pulley below the main gear.

Regarding Emag's comment on the black gears, I won't run them either. Some were known to strip in flight (as documented on several forums). The problem is that you cannot tell (at least I cannot tell) which are good and which are not-at least until after you strip one). Therefore, unless you are certain which you have, it is wiser to run the white gears.

good point

I know my gears were from before the bad lot went out.

I thought Compass pulled the bad ones from distribution and it was cleard up long ago. That suxx that the black gear is still questionable due to this. In any case the white are a better part overall any way.

Strip black gear

i stripped mine as well, but must confess, blades was stuck in ground, and motor was at full throttle

i was glad it stripped.. no chicken dance.. and thus much less damage ;-)

the black gear works 100% now. personally i prefer it.. cause got white one on odin, and the oil/black marks on the white gear makes it look all old and dirty;-)

I think they did pull the bad ones, but I do not know what is on dealers shelves as there is no way (that I know of to tell). I would assume more recent production ones are ok, but how does one tell.

The white delrin ones are machined, very tough, and very quiet.

It's good to be the outcast sometimes lol.. You wont have second thoughts about owning it at all. DO you have a local Hobby Shop? Tell them you would like them to carry the line. That would be the quickest way to ensure your parts are readily available. Parts are available at any time. If a dealer is low on parts or doesnt have them, they havent ordered them yet

you will be the envy not the outcast

Back when the first few slipped into the USA I got one so talk about outcast heli. But the heli just flies so darn good I tell you this and you wont get the full meaning till you feel it yourself. The heli makes you a better pilot. It just hangs in orientations due to the CG that other common designs fall out of or are harder to acomplish. Snakes tic toc ect are just as close to effortless as it gets. It flips tight rolls on the boom or as close as any heli I have seen.

You wont be an outcast for long

Parts have never been an issue. I used to get them direct so up till this year I never had to retail them but I found that all the major mail order places keep a full inventory. It would be nice to have it get popular enough for the locals to start stocking. I know my local had a supply I set up for him.

Enjoy !

stripped black gear

well
should not have said anything ;-)

have been having major issues this last 2 weeks with hyper.. no power.. so this weekend decided @#$@#4 this and put it back to factory settings (supper rich).. so of course when i did full power punch out, motor went into 4 stroke.. now 4 stroke is not the smoothest things.. so about after 2 seconds climb.. the uneven motor basicly broke the gear. .hehe

o well.. gave me reason for full strip down.. found back bearing shot..

as my girlfriend said.. prob blessing in disguise.. because another few flights, and motor would have been bin filer.

so black gear saved me few hunder $$

cheers
