Hello all, once again we had an absolute ball at PJ'S annual fun fly in Galway over the weekend, although conditions were promised very poor it turned out to be quite a good weekend weather wise.

The highlight of my weekend was seeing my new 700 being flown by the one and only Steven Gerard.

I was planking it ,not of his flying but in fear that i may have forgotten to tighten something properly and disaster would happen, but no, testement to my build ,it survived, thank god, Steven put it through its pace's.WOW!Thanks Steven

Thanks to PJ and Syl as usual for your hospitality.
We had a ball. Thanks to John O Rourke for bringing me clubing Saturday night, never danced as much when i was younger.
Im sure PJ will put up some Photo's here soon.

Cheers JK

Are you sure it wasn't me John who called you all 2 cabs, put you all into them, told the cab driver where to go and then showed you all where the club was, not to mention getting you all back in to cab home safe after the nite...

its such a pity irish heli flyers have to go to a US based forum to find out about these events and always after the event is over ...

a bit of PR would go along way ....

Congratulations to the winners and organisers and all involved !!

Hi Syl

Thanks for the info ! hopefully i will see you at the midlands flyin over xmas, its funny - MACI has a couple of hundred members, with about 150 heli flyers ....miniscule by BMFA and IRCHA or AMA standards its a pity there are not more events held in ireland for heli flyers every year....

Well to list what was on this year in Model Helicopters

4 fun flys

3 rounds of Heli Challenge Trophy

3DX Ireland

Irish Helicopter Nationals

Thats a total of 9 events.

Considering how small our country is I think we have our fair share of events.

I'm hoping the new Helicopter Association web site will be up and running in the new year and this will publish all heli events plus have its own fourm.

Glad to hear that the weekend went well and sorry I couldn't get down hopefully there will be other opportunities in the new year to all meet up again. It says alot when this event has drawn that kind of talent for the third year in a row.

PJ makes a very valid point, the heli scene in Ireland is healthier now than it has ever been, with truly world class pilots visiting year in year out and always wanting to come back for more. It should also be said that Ireland has home grown, international class talent, with more appearing all the time, showing that the next few years are looking good over here........

Hi Kieran

From what i'm told it handled 'Big Ben' very well not that dumb thumbs here will be trying that with it

I had a few issues with overheating the Jazz ESC but will add a heatsink when I get back. I also have a more powerfull motor to try in it. Thats not a reflection on the kit though. Its a lovely machine which tracks great and is very stable but will still flip in a flash - the V-bar is class. I have three of them on my Logo 500, 600 and now 400

How did you manage not to here about 3dx ireland, we had a thread going hear for two months before hand
http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t408318p1/
It would have also have been in the booklet sent out by MACI.

None the less, as PJ said we hope to have the new Helicopter Association web site up and running in the new year..
Also, if you know of other heli pilots interest.. get them to PM myself or PJ and we will place their names on the mailing list, they have got to make themselves known to us...

See you at the midlands funfly....

Ya, it was a great article, the heli scene in Ireland has improved greatly since PJ took up the role of heli sectary.
IRCHA: As of yet an name has not be finalized, but wouldnt it be great to have some thing similar name wise to that of the great IRCHA.

As for date to midlands funfly at xmas, you would have to contact midlands as they decide. As you know dates can some times move due to weather but since its your second club I am sure you know some one that will keep you informed...

Best of luck with website...

How are ya Paddy in Dublin living in Navan, were you once known as DUBLINPADDY,are you soon to open an online store for R/C.??.

Anyhow both myself and AWESOME have in the past tried to make contact with the Heli flyers in Navan and kept in touch with them on this forum, told them about every event on throghout the country, awesome travelled to Navan for a day, never once did we see them at any event. Are you a member of the Navan Club?perhaps you could encourage them to get more involved.

Hanger 45 is about 3/4 of an hour away from you.

I have recently gained 6 new members from another Kildare club and these flyers are coming on in leaps and bounds and learning all the time.Infact maybe meeting this Saturday.22nd if your interested.
This is what this hobby is all about.helping and encouraging others.

Believe me you learn so much when you travel to all these events and other clubs.
3dx was the highlight of my year this year organised and run by Irish Lads,it was as good if not better then 3D Masters.

So Paddy encourage other flyers to get involved next year and 2009 will be as successful as 2008.

My email j.a.k@iol.ie and ph no 087 6344561 your very welcome at Hanger 45 anytime.

no i never went under the handle of Dublin Paddy , and yes you are quite observant i do indeed live in Navan, which for those who dont know the demographics of the island of Ireland is 50 kms approx north west of Dublin. So i use paddy in dublin as a handle here as its easier to illustrate to peeps on here where im from....

I never said I was opening an online store ? who told you that ? Its going to be an rc heli enthusiast website about my helicopters and anything new coming along, run by an rc heli enthusiast i.e ME the only thing i will be selling are TLA's so click the ads on it and i will make a few euro cets per click ...

Heres my other website which i designed for my motorbike a Suzuki TL1000R , I have a few other sites which are not relevant here but the google adsense revenue is quite nice and pays for my heli fuel !!

check out - http:/tlr1000.net

Im a little uneased by your post, i feel as if you are getting annoyed with me, im only conveying my opinion for whats it s wroth and nothing else ! I was on the field the Day Awesome, (Kieran Roche I think) came to visit the "meath model club" in Cannistown in Navan. That was nearly 4 years ago ! I flew with those guys a couple of weekends as my house is only 5 minutes from their site.

At that time i had only started flying helis having flown fixed wing both model and PPL(A)Full Scale for many years, both myself and a colleague were involved with midlands at that time, incidently i have been involved with midlands since i was 14 years of age ...a long time ago now ...

I remember Kieran flying a Fury i think it was at the time, and yes you are correct, in the eyes of the guys involved in that club they had no interest in broadening their horizons and going to fly-ins, competitions etc etc. A pity really as Dave Bartley flying a nice Freya 90 had the potential to be a good pilot with the right guidance and encouragment. They were happy in theri little bubble so to speak. So I think its unfair to flame them because Kieran went to visit them and nothing came of it, if i remember at the time he was happy to be there. So i quickly dissassociated myself with the club and continued on with Midlands ...

When my son came along i wasnt flying any way regular at all and its only in the last 18 months i have come back to the hobby in a commited way.

I love an open and honest approach to our hobby, I dont like the eliteist attitude i think some heli flyers have towards newcomers and first timers at a particular event, im sorry to have to say that that has been my experience over the years, maybe its me , i dont quite honestly know. If i go to any maci event i try and engage with people, and yes of course you are also correct when you say you can learn a lot, i wouldnt be where i am today if i hadnt got to know people i can talk to, pick up the phone and call if i have a query about any of my models. which are incase you are wondering, a raptor 50 ( my first helicopter) a Fury Extreme and a Trex 700n ...

So currently i fly with the Royal County Flyers at ballivor, 20 minutes from my house and they are a great bunch of guys, only 2 heli pilots in the club so we are very much the minority

I will give Dave Mc a ring this afternoon and chase up the date for the fly-in at christmas.

So now you know a bit more about me and perhaps we can loose the supicious minds taint on our posts ? I might take you up on your kind invitation to hangar 45 some sunday, thanks for the invite !!

Cheers
