| As George says, the "s" stands for the number of cells wired in series. A "p" letter after a number stands for the number of cells wired in parallel.
So 3s1p means three cells wired in series and there is only one cell (or group of cells)in parallel. Most often, if it is only "1p", it is left out of the designation, therefore 5s really means 5s1p but they drop the "p" because it is understood that there is only one of them.
3s2p means three in series and two in parallel.
6s3p is six in series and three in parallel.
The "s' designation is always given first, followed by the "p" designation.
