Audacity Models Pantera 50 - Tiger 50 > Pantera tail linkage setup question/problem?

c_cormierHeliman - Location: New Hampshire, USA -
I received my gyro and tail servo today and I started to get everything mounted and connected.

I started off with the linkage length set to 725mm and positioned the tail pitch control lever at 90deg. When I place the servo into place it appears that the linkage is still too long for everything to be at 90deg. I checked to make sure the tension on the belt is correct by pulling out the boom a little bit, but it still appears to be too long. I tightened up the ball links to a point where I feel if I continue to tighten them, something is gonna snap. Am I missing anything?

Here are some pictures:

The rods have to account for the fact belts get tensioned over time Chris, so a little too long is better than a little too short. The easiest solution in this case is to just trim a few threads off the ends of the rod before adding the link.

Thanks for the reply John...I thought about getting out the dremel, but did not want to jump too soon. I'll work on the adjustment tomorrow. Thanks again

Make sure the belt is properly tensioned before you do because you can trim the rod but you can't add back on to it . . . just like in carpentry, measure twice, cut once! We've not really had an issue with the rods being too long, except when a Pantera rod is fitted to a Tiger because it's a little bit too long for that application but you have a Pantera (I think), so be certain you really have to cut it.

I agree on the measure twice, cut once theory. I will get the correct servo horn attached as well before I make the measurement and set the dremel up. I just want the linkage as close to the 90deg. mark.

Yes it is a Pantera

Make sure the tail boom is in the right way

Make sure that the long slot of the boom is in the frame and not the tail as this can affect rod length as well.

I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was going to blame you!
