The statement is metaphorical in that I can never identify with certainty the level of knowledge and experience of a prospective customer and thus, when I ere, I do so on the side of presenting too much information because I am operating under the assumption the expert's BS meter will indicate a false positive at times but accepting this as an inherent risk in presenting so much information.

That said, I also try to be fair. Hence, while I happen to think my training gear is the best on the market, a reasonable man may chose to disagree. Also, on the off chance a customer would believe himself to be ahead of the game by making his own with wiffle balls and dowels, I explain why this isn't necessarily the case when I mention making your own . . . know any other vendors sharing my philosophy?

So what some may chose to view as too much information, others will enjoy reading and if they were considering a dowel and whiffle ball solution may pause and reconsider the value of spending the extra 10 or 15 bucks by purchasing our training gear versus making their own or buying a cheap set up.

Regardless, on thing I couldn't take into account when I made my post was the fact I simply wasn't aware we had an issue with pictures showing up, which I cannot rectify before tomorrow - else I rather suspect the concesus might have been different regarding the content. Why? Because the information reads more like an article when supported by the pictures.

So there is BS or a false positive in the write up that experts can pick out but not newbies?

I think some people here my be loosing site of what you are really trying to do here JB.... I am very glad that you are taking to time to put descriptions and pictures with all the items....

The quick order is nice, but there still needs to be a list and description of each part. Not all of us have a manual to look at when we are placing orders from work...LOL

I sold another one to Terrafirma...... wife wants to know where the money's at!!!!

I think that the website has to be concise and the website is more critical than ever without advertising here on RR.
A clickable schematic would be great for finding parts.
IMHO, there is too much going on for training gear. If the part was more complex I can see where a long description was warranted.
More importantly a secure server would be a top priority.

It doesn't matter.

1. you need a part number search box, for those who know what they want before they get to the site.

2. you need CLEAR WORDING ON PRODUCT DESCRIPTIONS so people can discern that they have found what they are looking for. Ex: tiger washout base, or pantera washout base, or tiger washout base version 2 (and a brief line of what makes it version 2, or a link to an explanation)

3. You need GREAT photos of most parts, and a photo for EVERY part.

4. Some items require additional explanations, or howtos, as a link.

the best sites have great photos, and descriptions. Stay away from expandable menus (heliproz) that are flashy but slow you down. Show it all from the get go. Don't make me explore your menu.

The hardest thing about ecommerce is the initial product load, and the interface with the brick and mortar cash register/inventory system. Secure servers, sql backends, ssl encryption and site certificates has been solved for like years...

my 2 cents, photo omitted.

And this is why John's head is going to explode any day now. He is trying to keep all of what you just mentioned square while building the new website and living out of a suitcase while the house remodel languishes. I dont envy him. Well, maybe over the Bonanza but not the rest. hehe. A Bonanza is a Beechcraft full scale airplane if you don't know. John's is not typical.

I worked like that when I was starting my company. Yes, a Bonanza would be nice, indeed, if I enjoyed flying that much. After 21 years in the Army, I have had my fill...

I usually tell a customer (when my company doesn't do it) to find a tech savy employee, or a local college / high school person to do the load for cokes, pizza and money. Some high schools with an IT class will even volunteer time for the real world experience.

Other vendors do 5-10 items a night, and over a couple months, everything is in there. If it is a migration, and products are already in a digital format, we manipulate it to do a 75% upload, and hand jam the rest.

But, if all that is non existant:

1. photo / title / category / price /weight / shipping goes in first, then you go back and fill in descriptions, etc. You get perfection over time, not right off the bat.

yes, I sympathize with John. Unfortunately, this is where being a perfectionist doesn't help.
