Got Jet Fuel? Turbine Helicopters > JetCat fuel pump failure

Hi everybody,

nonewhistanding what was said on this previous thread http://www.runryder.com/helicopter/t471488p1/

I personnally experienced a JetCat pump failure at exactly 15h on my PHT3. I was fortunate enough not to experience it while flying. I was on the ground and the turbine just didn't wanted to start-up. The pump is dead I've ordered a new one.

Just to think about; bad luck, bad batch?? Who knows?

Best regards

Héli Suisse, Bad luck, never hear of one going that quickley,
Did it just stop?
Will you send it back to JetCat?
Of the ones I know that have been sent back to JetCat, most have picked up dirt and jammed the gears
Good luck

There good pumps, I think that there can be bad luck at times with electrical components. I'm sorry you may have received a bad pump . I have a spare pump from a Friend, that crashed his jetcat straight into the ground from a control arm breaking and made a mess of it . Any ways to make a short story, i got the pump and took it apart and realized it's a well made pump. I completely trust the design. I don't here about many people crashing from the fuel pumps just up and quiting so hopefully it was just bad luck only. I'm sure i will change out my pump right along in placing a new glow plug some time in the future, just because its good preventative maintenance only. Just like you need to get new tires, for your car new brakes, clutch, change the oil, things like that everything needs a little TLC know and then . Know that's the way i look at it not because Jetcat makes a bad pump.

I disassembled the pump components and checked the gears. Everything seems ok. The electrical engine seems to be faulty, it got jammed at the level of the bearing/shaft interface, thus explaining the lack of response while activating the pump.

The pump gradually showed signs of weakness, I had more and more trouble starting the turbine the last 3 attempts before it quited. I initially though some dirt was clogging the filter, which has proven not to be the case after carefull trouble shooting.

I've ordered a new one. I've not yet send it back to JetCat for I've tried to solve the problem on my own by opening the case, which is not recommended if you want to claim! Anyway the warranty is no longer valid I own the turbine for more than 3 years now.

Than you all of you for the psychological support.

Best regards

Héli Suisse, Good that you have found the cause, that is another first for me, never known the motor to give up
I know, with JetCat, if you send your ECU back with any defective parts they will check it and the hours on your ECU, and if there is damage, they will replace,"under fairness", providing the damage has not been caused by yourself
I know it may seem expensive, but get 2 pumps, a spare will keep you flying in times of need
