e-Electric General Discussion > Heli-Max Axe EZ lift issue...

My heli-max axe ez isn't lifting up that high off of the ground
When I'm at full throttle, it only hovers at about knee height. I got a new battery, so it couldn't be that.

If anyone has had this problem or they think they know how to fix it, post away!

Thanks to all in advance

A good amount of flights, not sure on the number.
I've had it for about a year or so now.

If you've had it for a year I'd go ahead and get new motors I think they are about $10 each.

I've been dealing with the exact same issue. Heli Max sent me two motors about a month ago (free of charge) and I just tonight got around to putting them in.

The thing still doesn't barely lift off the ground. The new motors didn't make any difference.

If it's not the motors or battery, that leaves the 4-in-1 unit or transmitter. The 4-in-1 thingy is like $50 though. I'm going to email helimax again and tell them whats going on. Maybe they'll send me out a new 4-in-1 unit.

Tell me how the new motors work out for you...

Does anyone know, or can anyone tell me what the voltage is at the motors at full throttle on a properly working Axe EZ?

I'd like to test mine that way and see if I can isolate the problem a little more.

If anyone is interested, I got a reply back from helihotline@hobbico.com about the voltage at the motors at full throttle. I haven't tested mine yet, but I'm thinking this could help isolate the problem.

Here is what they said:
Hello, We do not have that information. We had to set up a heli to get readings. The voltage when the throttle os wide open ranged 5.6 to 5.7 volts. Sincerely, Lennie M.Product SupportGreat Planes Model DistributorsPS9013

I hope someone finds this useful.

So I finally tested mine and found that it was well over 6 volts.

Are there any electrical engineers, or anyone else that knows a bit about electronics? Is this a useful test? I thought it was, but now I'm not sure. Does the voltage go up if there is extra resistance to the motors? I figure that the motor speed is determined by how much juice is fed to it, in a brushed motor anyway.

For lack of better understanding, based on my results compared with the suggested volts, I've decided that everything before the motors is working as expected. If this is correct, it means there is a mechanical problem with the head.

Upon closer inspection of the head, it appears that there is a very slight wobble in the inner shaft for the top rotor blades. I've ordered a replacement and am waiting for it now. Seems someone must have dropped this on its head or something.

Well, I put the new shaft in, lubed it a bit with some silicon oil, and still no change.

Man, this is a dead thread. Is there anyone out there that cares about this thing? Am I just wasting my breath posting here?

Maybe this will help. Recently, I introduced a friend to the hobby by letting him fly my EZ. After a bad landing and reinstalling the flybar, it wouldn't lift out of ground effect. When the flybar popped off, it spun and changed the link's length. So, with the flybar level, one blade had a lot of pitch and the other had little. Adjusting the link to get both flybar and blade hub perpendicular to the main shaft was all it took to get it right again.
