So one of my tail blades decided it was time to leave my Cypher mid-flight today... I managed to land the heli and slow the rotor down quite quickly by using the "plow into the asphalt" method

Oddly enough the only thing i could see that was broken were the blades! I flipped the throttle hold switch before impact and got lucky i guess. I am not sure what my head speed was when the tail blade let loose, but it was about 3 seconds after i went into Idle-up 2 which was obviously set too fast.

I need new main and tail blades now, suggestions? HeliProz has quite a few listed, i would like some tail blades that are carbon, main blades can be wood or carbon...

I'll give this another shot for some possible help please :0)

I have had some bouncing in the tail lately and couldnt quite track it down -- I finally did. I replaced the tail shaft with a new shaft and figured all would be well -- the bouncing I seem to be getting is the tail shaft moving sideways in the tail mount. All screws are tight tight and I dont recall seeing any washers or spacers in the package or when dissassembling the old one. Would I be able to use a samll washer to take up some room or will it rub and do something to the tail shaft ? Hopefully not during flight :0)

Thanks for any advise given,

Markus

dizzy,

I added a small washer to take care of the play. If I remember correctly, the ID was large enough not to interfere with the center\rotation of the bearing.

Hey Hash, sorry to hear you lost a blade as well. See my other post regarding this issue under attention cyper owners. Also keep an eye on the stock main blades. Mine cracked at the root.

You wouldnt happen to remember the size of the washer would you? lol

I had tried several and the seem to (once back together) make the drive belt drag a bit -- I can feel it by hand spinning. I am thinking I may just pass this issue and put a psare MH tail assembly onit -- will have to cut the boom down to fit but then she'll be all shiney crome :0) Like it should have been in the first place :00 Thanks for the response -- its greatly appreciated,

Markus

Markus,

I think the washers I used came from a hirobo shuttle. I found them in one of my parts bins. I'll get you the dimensions next week when I will have access to my heli.

1st...

Take your time to set up the tail correctly and you will be rewarded. Don't skimp on a tail rotor servo. I would like to try some 315 carbon blades soon, but the 325 are nice and stable.

This helicopter can be very, very stable and docile or jacked up to perform as shown in the video.

upgrades

The only upgrade I want at this point is a few more battery packs and a better charger. Carbon blades are the only upgrade needed for aggressive flying. However, for training, the stock wood blades are surprisingly good.

I bought a Cypher 3D last week from HeliProz South and ordered the wrong size batteries, ie...2500 mah instead of the 2170 mah. My bad, no one else. I called them back after my box arrived and my heli buddy verified the batteries are way too big. I'm on a road trip at work. They are exchanging them and shipped the correct batteries ASAP. I've bought from them since the mid 90's when they were Rick's RC Helis. Their Customer Service is so good and they are so polite, I ordered another Cypher and all the normal spares. The parts amount to about $45 with 2 in a package and I doubled the order for about $96. The Cyphers are going for $160. I paid $180 for the last one and they credited me $20. They like me as much as I like them.

Pitch Curve

What kind of pitch range are you guys getting on the Cypher? I read in RC Heli +9/-9 in a test review. I'm using Futaba 3154 at 10mm and getting only -5.5/+7.5. Does anyone know of a servo arm that fits on these servos that I can get more throw. The stock arms are so flimsy IMHO. A 2mm nut is wider that the arm width. Any further out would just get more flex.
Thanks!!!!!!!!!!

I found some Dubro arms that work fine; however I started flying my Cypher with Idle-up 1 and 2 and well it blew up. The main blades can't take high rpms. I've seen some claims that 3000 rpms is what it will take, but I seriously doubt that. I think I had about 2300 rpms when it threw a blade. I will try using my SkyTach when I get someone to shoot my rotor disk. Other than that, it flys great.

Must have been a bad blade. The blade that was slung had the brass tube pulled through the plastic root reinforcement and through the wood. I was flying at a friends backyard rc field. No one hurt. The parts amounted to about $25 plus the blades. I bought a couple of sets of Align blades. I will try them and see how it goes. Don't get me wrong, I really like this heli. Man is it cheap to repair.

Cypher Help

Hi, Just got my Cypher flying and what a great little heli,,, from my very limited experience. I've been flying helies a little over a year, mostly fixed pitch and the HBKII so I'm still a new-bee. Also flew fixed wing for years and that turns out to be a big handicap when stepping up to helies. I'm well into my 50s so I really don't expect to fly anything like the videos I've seen here, I'm happy to hover and do figure eights.

The question I have is, my esc gets real hot (145F +) I just cut the heat shrink tubing away from the heat sink and mounted it with the heat sink facing up and it still runs hot. What are you guys doing? As a last resort I could cut holes in the canopy to get some air on the esc.

I'm thinking of moving the esc to the gyro spot, the receiver to the esc spot and the gyro in the radio spot. That would get some air on the esc and maybe help balance. I suspect that may cause radio problems, and thoughts?

Cypher 3D

Airtronics RDS8000-FHSS (lucky to get this figured out, I'm sure it's not setup to it's full potential but I'll learn over time)

15C 2150mAh 11.1v, thinking of going to 1800mAh to help balance, the Kong power lipos look interesting.

Thanks,
