Hi Guys,
The San Fernando Valley Flyers, with my advice has removed the Labor Day heli event from the 2008 schedule. The reasons for this are several fold. Among them, people have had problems with family conflicts during the holiday weekend, and the last few years have been brutally hot in LA in late August.

Have no fear though, out of the ashes, we are looking to start a brand new event tentatively called "LA 3-D Helicopters" - First annual. Originally, the dates proposed conflicted with the "Buzzing at the Boarder" San Diego FF September 19, 20, 21. Currently, there is a slot in our schedule for the next weekend, September 26, 27, 28. I know it would make them back to back, but what do you guys think?

EDIT ***New Dates***
The event has been rescheduled to OCTOBER 10th, 11th, 12th.

What I am looking to do is go back to the events we were having some years ago. I remember tons of vendors, cool tee shirts, lots of flying, noon-time demos, just a few fun contests and piles of raffle prizes.

Here is the link to previous events (thanks Mark). Take a look http://runryder.com/helicopter/rrTV-Photo/. I especially had a hand in the 2001, 2002, and 2003 LA “Classics”

Ideas?

Mitch,

I moved the date of "Helis Buzzin The Border" up one week to Sept. 12,13,14. This should give some buffer between our events and not conflict with the Southern Rotory Classic.

Hope this helps,

Don

You the Man.
Thanks.

I know it's something like 250 days until the events, but I'm still pretty jazzed.

Los Angeles 3-D Helicopters ***NEW DATES***

Hey All,
LA 3-D Helicopters has been re-scheduled to the second weekend in October. October 10th-12th. This is further away from other events and it is also further away from the hottest part of our summer.
How's it work for people?

Hi James,
Great to hear from you!
I think you've been to pretty much every one we've held at the Basin. Is this so? I'm looking forward to this one too.

No!

Sorry, Mitch.
But, I missed the first one only because I didn't know anything about the Heli meet until the second one. I have been to each one after that and they always been great. You always helped to make these meetings great! See you there.

Web-site is up

Our new web-site is up! Take a look at http://www.la3d.org/
It will continue to be updated, but we've got the basic framework laid out.
Our Club - The Valley Flyers has made enormous improvements this past year. We have many new work tables, plenty of shade and extensive electric charging facilities. We have a monster new BBQ and a large new popcorn machine. One of our Club members donates scissor platforms for our events for videography and whatever. Last big event we drag raced two of them down the runway (topspeed - walking pace - ok, not as exciting as it seemed it would be) and used one of them to hoist an eight foot square screen for watching the day's video at night. We now have runway and taxiway landing lights for the night flys and a brand new sound system.
Also, I am especially glad the dates are moved to October for this event. Every year I am out of town until the day or two before the event starts - it doesn't allow me much time to recoup or to help. I will be a lot more enthusiastic this year because of the date change (also not being a hundred + degrees will help us all).
I will still be out of town and mostly out of touch this August. And, since it is Bert's event this year, I am hoping he will be able to chime in and answer any questions from here forward.
Regards to all,
Mitch
